Frequently asked questions
What is MedBilling Fee Desk?
A fast reference for physicians and billing staff to look up physician fee codes, fees, modifiers, governing rules and diagnostic codes. For Alberta it uses the Schedule of Medical Benefits (SOMB) effective April 1, 2026 and the Alberta Health ICD-9 diagnostic code list.
Which provinces and territories are included?
Live: Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Newfoundland and Labrador, Northwest Territories and Yukon. MedBilling Fee Desk does not include fee schedules for British Columbia, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia or Prince Edward Island. Each jurisdiction's source, edition and licence is shown in the app's footer and on the Resources page; see also Terms: jurisdictions.
Does it work without internet?
Yes. The schedules are stored in the app, so search, code details, rules, favourites and recent codes work in airplane mode. Only links to outside websites need a connection.
Is it free? Do I need an account?
It is free, with no ads, no in-app purchases and no subscription. There is no account or sign-in.
Is my information private?
Yes. The native app collects no data (App Store label: Data Not Collected) and has no analytics or tracking. Your favourites and recent codes stay on your device. See the Privacy Policy.
How do I back up my favourites or move them to a new phone?
Open ★ Favourites and tap Export to save a file (for example to Files or email it to yourself). On the new device, tap Import and choose that file. The file includes your favourite groups and code groups (with their modifiers and when you last used them), the links between fee codes and ICD-9 codes, and the modifiers linked to your codes; importing merges them with what is already on the device (nothing is deleted, and a link that would give a code more than 3 links is skipped). A file from an older version has no groups or links, so its codes arrive under Ungrouped. An older version of Fee Desk can still import a newer file: every favourite arrives, without the parts that version doesn't know.
How do I group my favourites (by specialty, doctor or my own name)?
Open ★ Favourites and tap + New group. Choose the type: Specialty (pick from the list, such as Family Medicine or Obstetrics & Gynecology, or type your own), Doctor (type the doctor's name) or Custom (any name), then tick the favourites that belong in it. Each group is a folder with a count; tap its name to open or close it, and Fee Desk remembers which ones you closed. Favourites that aren't in a group are listed under Ungrouped, so nothing from before is lost.
When you tap ☆ on a code, a quick sheet lets you choose its group(s); the group you used last is ticked for you. A code can be in several groups. Tap ⋯ on a code to move it, copy it to another group or remove it from a group, and ⋯ on a group to add codes, rename it, move it up or down, or delete it (you choose whether its codes stay as favourites or are removed). Use Filter favourites to search, and sort the groups A–Z, by Recent (most recently used first) or in My order. In pick mode from MedBilling Logs, tapping a code inside a group sends it back as usual. Group names, including doctors' names, are your own labels and stay on your device.
How do I make a custom code group (for example C-section or Clinic visit)?
A custom code group keeps the codes you bill together in one named group inside ★ Favourites. Tap + New group, keep the type Custom, type a name (for example C-section or Clinic visit) and tap Create group. In the Add to sheet, tick favourites, or use the Fee codes, ICD-9 and Modifiers tabs to search any code by code or words and tap it to add it (tap again to take it out). A fee or ICD-9 code you add is also starred; a modifier (Alberta explicit modifiers only) lives just in its groups. You can also add a code from the search results with ☆, or a modifier from the Modifiers tab with + Group. In the group, fee codes are listed first, then ICD-9 codes, then modifiers.
Sort your groups with the A–Z, Recent or My order buttons above the list; Fee Desk remembers your choice. Recent puts the group you used last at the top and shows when (for example “20 min ago”). A group counts as used when you open it, or open, pick or send a code that is in it. Tap ⋯ on a group to add or remove codes, rename it or delete it (Fee Desk asks first; its fee and ICD-9 codes can stay as favourites).
In pick mode from MedBilling Logs (Alberta), each group has a Send button: it lists the group's codes, all ticked, so you can send the whole group into the row in one go, or untick the ones you don't need. One send takes up to 10 fee codes, 10 ICD-9 codes and 10 modifiers (3 each with older MedBilling Logs versions). Add to selection combines the group with single codes you pick with +. You can also open the group and tap single codes as before. Code groups stay on your device and are included in Export.
How do I link a fee code to the ICD-9 codes I usually bill with it?
When you tap ☆ on a fee code, Fee Desk offers Link ICD-9 (you can ignore it). Pick up to 3 ICD-9 codes: your ICD-9 favourites and the suggested codes are listed first, or search by code or words. Tapping ☆ on an ICD-9 code works the other way: link it to up to 3 fee codes. Later, tap ✎ beside the linked codes, or ⋯ on the favourite, to add or remove links.
In ★ Favourites each fee code shows its linked ICD-9 codes side by side (code and a short description), and each ICD-9 favourite shows its fee codes. A link works both ways, so linking 03.04A to V22.1 shows on both. A code can have at most 3 links; Fee Desk tells you when one is full. Links are your own, stay on your device and are included in Export. In pick mode from MedBilling Logs (Alberta), tapping a favourite that has links selects the code together with its linked codes and modifiers, so you can send them all at once (see below).
How do I search Alberta modifiers?
Open the Modifiers tab and type a modifier code (for example CMGP or TELES) or words (complex, evening, age). Each modifier shows its type, a short description and, under When it applies, the official definition and the fee codes it is used with in the price list. Use the chips to show All, Explicit (modifiers you enter on a claim) or Implicit (applied by the claims system, for example by age or location). The list comes only from Alberta Health's official Fee modifier definitions as of 01 April 2026 (Schedule of Medical Benefits, RG122, April 2026 edition): 283 modifiers in 42 types. Nothing is added or invented; the source and version are shown under the list.
Can I link modifiers to my favourite codes?
Yes. Tap ✎ beside a favourite's linked codes (or ⋯ → Edit links) and choose the Modifiers tab. Fee codes list the explicit modifiers that the price list allows for them first; you can also search all explicit modifiers. Each fee code or ICD-9 favourite can have up to 3 linked ICD-9 or fee codes and 3 linked modifiers. Modifier links show as violet chips; tap one to open that modifier. Links are your own, stay on your device and are included in Export.
How are ICD-9 codes suggested?
On a code's detail page the app lists up to 8 ICD-9 codes that commonly fit that service, each with a "Why suggested" line. The matching is built into the app (Alberta Health does not publish a code-to-diagnosis map), so treat suggestions as a starting point and choose the diagnosis that matches your documentation.
How do I send a code back to MedBilling Logs?
In MedBilling Logs, tap ↗ in a Fee code(s) or Dx (ICD-9) cell. Fee Desk opens in pick mode with a slim yellow bar. Tap a billing code or an ICD-9 code and it goes straight into that cell in MedBilling Logs. Only codes travel (no patient information). Cancel returns without changes. Outside pick mode Fee Desk works as usual.
Can I send several codes at once (fee codes, ICD-9 and modifiers)?
Yes, for Alberta with MedBilling Logs version 9l or later. In pick mode tap + beside codes to collect up to 10 fee codes, 10 ICD-9 codes and 10 modifiers (MedBilling Logs 9m or later; 9l takes 3 of each) in the tray at the bottom of the screen (use the Modifiers button in the bar to find modifiers). Tapping a favourite that has links selects it together with its linked codes and modifiers. Tap ✕ to remove one, Clear to start again, then Send to MedBilling Logs. Logs adds them to the row you started from: fee codes to Fee code(s), ICD-9 to Dx (beside their fee codes, extras after them; none are dropped), modifiers to Modifier code 1 (first fee code) or Modifier code 2 (second fee code), without overwriting or duplicating what is already there, and shows what was added. Tapping a single code without + still sends just that code, as before.
Is this medical or billing advice?
No. MedBilling Fee Desk is a billing-code reference only. It does not diagnose or treat, is not a medical device, and does not submit or adjudicate claims. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Alberta Health or any other government or health authority. You remain responsible for your claims: always verify codes, fees, modifiers and rules against the current official schedule before you submit. See the Terms of use and Privacy Policy (sections B–D).
What if a fee or code looks wrong?
Treat the official government schedule as the source of truth. Email us at admin@medibrisa.com with the code, province and what looks wrong so we can investigate. Using the app does not guarantee claim acceptance or payment.
Where are the legal terms?
Privacy Policy (data practices plus disclaimers) and Terms of use (as-is warranty, limitation of liability, indemnity, Alberta governing law).
I found an error or want a change. How do I tell you?
In the app, tap Suggest a change at the bottom of the screen. It opens your email app with a message to admin@medibrisa.com. Or email us directly. Including the code, province and what looks wrong helps us fix it quickly.
When is the data updated?
When a province publishes a new schedule edition, we update the data and release a new version of the app. The edition date is shown in the app footer.
Is there a web version?
Yes, at feedesk.medibrisa.com. In the app, tap Open web version.
